After energy and heat production, transport generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions from transport primarily come from burning fossil fuel for our cars, trucks, ships, trains, and planes.

Air transport is extremely polluting – but so are petrol and diesel cars.

Even for small businesses, traveling to meetings or commuting to work each day is driving up your organisation’s carbon emissions.

We want to help you reduce work-related travel, as part of your small business strategy aimed at achieving your sustainability goals.

Think about your applicable travel emissions across all available transport options; including ferry, train, taxi, motorbike, bicycle, air travel (domestic and international), regular vehicle (small, medium and large), and hybrid (PHEV and EVs).

Walking is advocated as the best option, with zero applicable emissions, but we appreciate this is not always an option. Cycling also has very low emissions, even when taking into account those needed to manufacture the bicycle.

CAFA have created this Lower Carbon Travel Policy Template, designed to help you influence the behavior and decision making of your employees when it comes to travel and travel choices.

How to use the template?

The Lower Carbon Travel Policy Template is to be used as guidance to create your own policy and can be tailored and amended to suit your business depending on what is most important to you.
