iOS devices: Touch ID and Face ID biometrics

Touch ID is available on iPhone 5s and onwards, iPad 5th generation or onwards, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and later.
Face ID is available on iPhone X and later and iPad Pro models with the A12X Bionic chip or later.

To use biometrics you’ll need:

  • The latest version of the HSBC Business Banking app. Need to get the app?

  • Touch ID or Face ID enabled in your device settings.

To set up Touch ID or Face ID on your eligible device, you should follow the steps below.

Enable Touch ID or Face ID on your iPhone, iPad or Apple (iOS) device

1. Register biometrics

In your device settings, make sure you’ve registered Touch ID or Face ID.

2. Logon

Log on to the HSBC UK Business Banking app using your passcode.
For first time users, you’ll also need your password and Security Device.

3. Enable

Enable Touch ID or Face ID when prompted after log on, or from the More menu.

Important security information

When you enable Touch ID or Face ID on your IOS device, now or in the future, then this biometric information can be used to log on to the HSBC Business Banking app. You should only enable Touch ID or Face ID if you're the only person who has registered fingerprints on your device. You must take all reasonable precautions to keep your mobile device and security information safe and prevent any fraudulent use of them. If you choose to activate the feature that allows you to use your biometric information in the app, you must make sure only your Touch ID or Face ID information are registered on that device.

On which devices is this available?

Touch ID is available on:

  • iPhone 5s and onwards
  • iPad 5th generation or onwards
  • iPad Pro

Face ID is available on iPhone X and onwards and iPad Pro models with the A12X bionic chip or later.

Devices must be running with an operating system of iOS 12 or above.

What can I use Touch ID or Face ID for?

You can use Touch ID or Face ID to log on, authorise payments, pay a new payee or as a primary user confirm changes to business contact details.

Can I set up Touch ID or Face ID when I register for Business Internet Banking?

You must register and then activate your Business Internet Banking first. You can only then set up Touch ID or Face ID through HSBC UK Business Banking app.

Once you’ve activated Business Internet Banking you can download and log on to the HSBC UK Business Banking app using your Business Internet Banking credentials.

You can then follow the instruction mentioned above to enable Touch ID or Face ID on your, iPhone, iPad or Apple (iOS) device.

If you delete and reinstall the HSBC UK Business Banking app, you’ll need to re-register your fingerprint or face again within the app.

If my Touch ID or Face ID is not recognised, can I still log on?

Yes. As an alternative, you can still log on to the HSBC UK Business Banking app using your passcode.

Can I use Touch ID or Face ID  if I have other people's biometrics stored on my device?

When you enable Touch ID or Face ID for the HSBC UK Business Banking app, any biometric data stored on your device - now or in the future - can be used to log on, make payments or changes on your account using the app. You should only enable Touch ID or Face ID if you’re the only person who has registered biometric data on your device. You can add or remove this data in your device settings.

How can I disable Touch ID or Face ID?

There are two ways to disable Touch ID or Face ID for use in the HSBC UK Business Banking app

  • In your preferences from the more menu of the HSBC UK Business Banking app.
  • In your devices settings.

Enabling Touch ID or Face ID again in your device settings will also re-enable it for the HSBC Business Banking app.

What if my Touch ID or Face ID enabled device is lost or stolen?

You can disable Touch ID or Face ID from within the app by logging on to the HSBC UK Business Banking from an alternative mobile device. You’ll need your username, password and a code generated by your Security Device.

If you have any security concerns, log on to iCloud (iCloud.com) as soon as possible and remotely wipe your device by activating the ‘Find my iPhone’ app, selecting the lost device and erasing the data on it.

Will my fingerprint be stored in the app or elsewhere within HSBC?

No. Your fingerprints will not be stored in the HSBC UK Business Banking app or kept within HSBC.
