Lending appeal guidelines

You are able to use this appeals process in the following circumstances:

  • We are not prevented from lending to you, for example for legal or regulatory reasons or due to economic or trade sanctions
  • Your existing lending is not already subject to formal demand or enforcement or legal proceedings
  • You have submitted a formal lending application
  • Your appeal relates to a lending application declined within the previous 30 days or for appeals relating to conditions of lending, your appeal is made before the expiry of the lending offer
  • Your annual group turnover is less than £25m
  • You requested lending facilities for a period of more than 45 days

Please note: This process should not be used for enquiries or objections to the proposed costs of agreed lending (such as interest rates, fees and costs) or the standard terms and conditions HSBC attaches to such lending.

Starting the appeals process

The quickest route for your appeal to reach our appeals team is to complete and submit a Business Lending Appeal online application.

Alternatively, you can complete a Business Lending Appeal form in your own time - either by printing and filling it in by hand, or by entering your information directly into the PDF form and then printing it.

Please send your completed form to:

HSBC Bank plc
Business Lending Appeals
PO Box 205
Leeds
LS11 1BJ

What happens next?

Our specialist appeals team will send an acknowledgment of your appeal by the end of the next working day. If we need any further information, we will contact you on the phone number you provide on the form.

How long will it take to process my appeal?

We are committed to providing you with a response to your appeal within 30 days of receiving your application. We will telephone you to discuss your appeal and we will also confirm our decision in writing to you.

What if I don't have the right of appeal?

If your appeal cannot be handled by the lending appeal process (see the lending appeal guidelines above), you may take matters further by making a complaint. Ultimately you have the right to refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service, subject to applicable eligibility thresholds and time limits. While lending decisions would not usually fall within the Ombudsman's jurisdiction, they may review decisions on a case by case basis.
