With more than 12 years in sector banking, James has significant experience of capital origination and extensive knowledge of consumer-facing markets. He works closely with relationship directors for the sector, who use his expertise to inform their service. James is a member of the KPMG-IPSOS Retail Think Tank, which publishes thought leadership on the key influences on the future of retailing.

David Maddison

Director, Retail and Leisure

David has worked in banking since 2009 across several different markets including North America and Asia, but principally in the UK.

Having covered the Consumer Markets sector exclusively from 2016, and in a limited capacity prior to then, David has seen the sector mature and evolve through the various economic cycles, most recently Brexit and Covid-19.

David now oversees HSBC’s UK corporate banking coverage for retail & leisure operators, which includes but isn’t limited to; retailers, consumer brands, pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes. Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his young family, playing golf, watching a range of sports and travelling to his ancestral home of Canada.
