Upgrading from Internet Explorer 6

If you currently use Internet Explorer 6 as your web browser, you need to upgrade to a later version to continue using Business Internet Banking. Here's all you need to know, including how to upgrade.

Important upgrade information for customers who use Internet Explorer 6

At HSBC, we are committed to maintaining the highest security standards in our online banking services by continuously evaluating ways to enhance the safety of our systems. In order to ensure that you are receiving the highest levels of security, customers currently using Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) need to upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer (IE8 or above), or another modern browser (see links below), as soon as possible to ensure continued access to our online banking services. Our Business Internet Banking support for IE6 users ceased on 8 February 2015.

How to upgrade your browser?

Upgrading your version of Internet Explorer is quick, easy and free, simply download the latest version from the Microsoft site.

The latest versions of alternative browsers are also available to download from the following sites.

What if I don't upgrade my browser?
We strongly advise you to upgrade your browser to at least Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) to ensure continued access to our online banking services. Without upgrading your browser, you'll have experienced restricted access to HSBC's online banking services globally from 8 February 2015.

What if I am unable to upgrade the browser on my office computer?
Some companies have IT restrictions in place which prevent users from downloading or updating software. Others have systems which require the use of IE6. In cases like these, you may be unable to upgrade your browser directly. Please present this information to your IT manager for further consideration.

Where can I get more information?
If you need assistance with upgrading the browser on your home computer, Microsoft Support* provides comprehensive online help and troubleshooting resources. Technical support may also be available by contacting your computer manufacturer directly.

HSBC also provides a range of resources and information about online security, offering advice and guidance on how to protect yourself and your computer online.
